I have a friend whose birthday shows up right after the holidays and I almost always run out of time to get her a card. You'd think, after all these years, I'd just make it a part of my Christmas shopping and buy a birthday card along with the wrapping paper. But I blow it every time.
So I cranked out this little gag cartoon the night before I had to get the card in the mail. No, it's not hilarious. It's more of an inside joke. And now that I see it, even being on the inside I don't find the gag all that funny. Ah well, better than nothing. Below are the work-in-progress steps.
1) The pencil sketch
2) The inking (done in Photoshop)
3) Rough colors and blending (Photoshop)
4) I drop in a textured background I painted to look like watercolor.
5) Voila. Done. Happy birthday. -v
