Gallery Page Illustration : Step 3 (light and shadow)

Step three in my illustration process, developing the lights and shadows on the figures. So far, I've just started laying in brighter highlights and darker shadows to the dog and robot. This stage adds a little drama, yeah, but it also helps model the forms of the characters, makes them a little more "real" than the comparatively flat boy between them (note the cylinders of the robot's arms and body, the weight of the dog's torso).

The pencil sketch is completely gone now, but there are some elements of that that I really liked. Eventually I may revisit that and see if there's anything that can be brought forward into the final composition.

Ok, that's it for today's rambling. Tune in tomorrow for true tales of anatomical horror (wherein I fix something that obviously needs fixin') -v
